Selected participants will also get an exciting opportunity to travel to Japan for a second workshop, where they will engage with leading experts and future innovators.

The workshop will be chaired by Professor Mary Ryan, with dedicated support from Professor Ricardo Martinez-Botas, Associate Dean for Industry Partnerships (Faculty of Engineering) and Dr Jing Pang, Head of Partnerships and Impact (Innovation Ecosystem).

Dates:
Kick-off dinner: 6 – 9 pm on Wednesday 27th August 2025 in London

Workshop 1: 9 am – 5 pm on Thursday 28th August 2025 in London

Workshop 2 for selected participants: two-day workshop in Japan between 9th to 12th December 2025.

TKRI, formerly known as the Genesis Research Institute, was established on June 11, 1996, by the Toyota Group. The institute is located in Nagoya, Japan, and was founded with joint funding from 12 Toyota Group companies, including Toyota Motor Corporation.

This summer, the Postdoc Academy is piloting a new online session designed to support prospective postdoc applicants. The webinar offers insights into Cambridge’s research environment and practical guidance on navigating the UK academic application process.

What to expect:

  • An overview of Cambridge’s research culture and how it fits within the UK higher education landscape
  • Insights into the benefits and realities of working as a postdoc at Cambridge, including support structures, supervision, college affiliation, and career development opportunities
  • Tips on reading UK academic job adverts and preparing an effective application
  • Clarification on what Cambridge can (and can’t) offer in terms of support, relocation, and staff benefits
  • Responses to common questions from prospective applicants (with the opportunity to submit your own in advance)

Who it’s for:
This session is aimed at researchers anywhere in the world who are thinking about a postdoc at Cambridge but are still exploring whether it’s the right fit for them.
